Umbraco News - June Round-up

Good afternoon and welcome back. In this round-up we'll take a closer look at some June's Umbraco news and events from our favourite CMS. It's been a busy summer already, and for Umbraco enthusiast things are about to get even busier.

Upcoming Umbraco Events

There are four upcoming Umbraco events this summer, but you may need to do a little travelling to get to them. Upcoming events are being held across Europe and in Australia. If you can make it, there's still room, so be sure to sign up! Here's the rundown:

Umbraco Downloads News:

Umbraco CMS 5.0 CTP

This Umbraco 5 release is a preview of the next version of our beloved Umbraco platform. This version features support for specific back-office and front-end concepts while also giving us a glimpse at some new ones like the Hive Data Layer and Easy-as-Pie Plugins with NuGet. This version is the latest member to the Umbraco family, although some testers have had a downloading problem, here's what one tester had to say:

Looks very good! As always, straightforward installation and the interface does not look very different from v4. Existing users should feel right at home while discovering the new features. - dimitri_kourk

Content Freeze

This new package, which is currently in beta testing, kicks out and prevents any Umbraco users from entering the back office space (while providing them with a custom error message), which is useful if you need to update server or databases during this time. Cool!

Upgrade Access.xml File

This package was recently released in order to update your access.xml file from V3 to V4. It installs a dashboard control on the developer section that lets you upload your old access.xml file and covert it to V4. This conversion will ensure all your items are properly protected again.

You can get it here: http://our.umbraco.org/projects/collaboration/upgrade-accessxml-file

Cultiv Razor Contact Form

A new, simple, yet powerful and fully editable contact form was also recently released by Razor.

E-Commerce & Umbraco

A recently released video on the Umbraco website captures a cool session that shows how Umbraco was used to solve three different e-commerce solutions. It's a long video, so you may want to get your popcorn. Enjoy!
