Microsoft Features Redengine at Mix '11
Redengine featured during the first keynote
Microsoft's Mix conference in Las Vegas has grown into quite a
gathering over the years. Catered to developers, designers and
business professionals around the world and broadcast
internationally on the Microsoft site, being featured is kind of a
big deal!
The conference started Tuesday, April 12 with Dean
Hachmovitch and Scotty Guthrie kicking off the first key-note.
Right away, Redengine's work with Umbraco was mentioned, a moment
of pride for the Redengine staff in attendance.
"It was good," Curtis Massie, Redengine's Operations Manager,
admitted humbly. "We didn't expect to be included in the actual
keynote, so when we saw Redengine featured it was definitely a
point of pride. Afterwards, walking around and introducing
ourselves to others, we'd say 'We're from Redengine,' and seeing
the look of recognition on their faces felt pretty great."
See time 1:18:45 for a keynote from Niels Hartvig of
Umbraco, and 1:22:00 for the feature of Redengine.
"It's kind of funny because my friend texted me right after and
said 'Hey! We just saw Redengine on the live stream'," added
Terrence Jee, a Redengine developer, who noted he knew many people
who tuned-in to the broadcast on the Microsoft site. "It's
cool to know that there are people all over the world that saw
that," he explained. "It was a great opportunity to share what
we do and show what we have to offer."
Commited to staying connected
It's that spirit of collaboration and connectedness that made
Mix such a relevant conference for our team. After all, web
development is all about bringing people together in an effective
and enjoyable way.
"A lot is taken back from conferences like these," Jee affirmed.
"Not only from the sessions but from maintaining relationships with
people from around the world. You get a different perspective on
things you normally wouldn't get a chance to talk about or take
into account."
One perspective that was shared by Microsoft was the importance
of open source development, and specifically Umbraco, a partnership
Redengine has been passionate about for quite some time.
The advantages of going gold
Tom Bolianatz, Redengine developer, noted that the recent gold
partnership between Redengine and Umbraco furthers Redengine's
importance as a leader in web solutions.
"Being an Umbraco Gold Partner offers more legitimacy with
Redengine as an Umbraco development shop," he explained. "We have a
first line to the Umbraco development team so we have a quick turn
around on issues. The advantage of coming to Redengine for Umbraco
work is definitely that support angle."
For companies who had originally opted-out of hiring a web
development company to engineer their site, find themselves in over
their head, Redengine can still help.
"Coming to Redengine to solve the problems with your project is
the next best thing," encouraged Boliantz. "We give our clients
confidence that we can develop their site and effectively
target their issues."
Massie echoed the same sentiments but also noted that though
there are many perks to being a gold partner, the real feat is
having built a strong relationship with Umbraco.
"More important than than the title of a gold partnership
is the tight relationship we now have with Umbraco," he claims.
"Whenever the guys at Umbraco need help to support some of
their new initiatives or any new technology, they always will
rely on Redengine. Partnership is the differentiator. It
sets us apart."
As for whether the guys had a good time meeting and mingling in
Vegas the trio can agree there was fun to be had. Massie
enjoyed the "nifty appetizers" provided at the evening events. Jee
enjoyed the "creative atmopshere" and Boliantz, somewhat cynically
added, "You'd pretty much have to be a one armed clumsy kid, not to
have fun in Vegas."
