Alberta Summer Villages

The Alberta Summer Villages Association is a not-for-profit organization representing the interests of its members. Its goal is to aid each summer village in facing the challenges associated with their communities in response to their residents and visitors. The Association's approach is to unite the summer villages and provide economies of scale while also allowing each village the autonomy to represent themselves individually.  The Association came to Redengine with a challenge to provide a web solution and structure that would help them communicate better online - and also provide a framework that offered independence and an individual look for each village. Our goal was to create a cost effective, easy-to-use template that would allow the villages to 'show off' their community, while maintaining some consistency between the sites.

The web sites needed to be cost effective, easy to use and require little maintenance. Redengine proposed developing all five web sites through one Umbraco install applying a common template and information architecture. In addition, the functionality implemented would require minimum effort from administrators to use.

Using one template, individual villages are now able to modify their sites by adding images, colours and content relevant to each village. In addition, security was enabled to ensure that users would share the administration section, but would not have access to each other's content.

The result is a clean series of sites, all operating from the same easy to use install. This significantly reduced the cost of developing an individual site, providing the Summer Villages a bigger bang for their buck. The sites are clean, attractive and filled with useful information that will enrich the community spirit of each village.

"The websites that Redengine designed for the Summer Villages of Ross Haven, West Cove, Birch Cove and Val Quentin, [are] a job well done. All four Summer Village are very pleased with the design and easy movement throughout the website. We have had several compliments from our ratepayers with the wealth of information displayed on the site and the impressive look of the site. This will definitely change the way we disseminate municipal information to our ratepayers."
